Lisbon, Portugal, January 27 (AP) .— An international drug operation involving authorities from six countries seized a yacht carrying almost 2 tons of cocaine in the Atlantic, it was reported Monday.

The collection of information that helped locate and intercept the yacht was coordinated by the Center for Maritime Analysis and Operations in Drug Matters, based in Lisbon.

Two foreign men, 51 and 53, were arrested in the operation, the Portuguese police said.

In June 2019, US authorities seized more than $1 billion in cocaine from a ship in a Philadelphia port, calling it one of the biggest drug arrests in U.S. history.

The US Attorney’s office in Philadelphia announced the massive seizure on Twitter and said law enforcement officers seized about 16.5 tons (15 metric tons) of cocaine from a large ship in Packer’s Marine Terminal. Crew members were arrested and face federal charges.
