The German shipping company AIDA Cruises has announced the cancellation of two of its cruises scheduled for New Year’s Eve after having experienced “serious problems” technological at its headquarters in Rostock (Germany) that prevented its Christmas itineraries from running smoothly.

As reported by Bild , the ships Aida Perla and Aida Mar will not operate the planned cruises as of December 26 and 27, respectively, since the electronic boarding system did not work as there was no network connection between the headquarters and the boats. Both ships, which are operating circular cruises in the Canary Islands, remain in the port of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria since this weekend.

Affected passengers will receive a refund for the cancelled trip as well as a credit for a future cruise.

The connection with their cruise ships is not the only thing inoperative, since the central offices of the shipping company are not being able to answer phone calls or emails. Some sources suggest that this large communications failure could be due to an attack by hackers, although this has not been confirmed by the company.
