“It was a crazy show. You don’t see that every day,” said Jérémy Schalkwijk, who did not miss the opportunity to capture what happened with his camera.
A tour guide from South Africa was stunned to see how a pisaura spider pulled a goldfish from the water.
The scene happened in the city of Barberton (Mpumalanga, South Africa), when Jérémy Schalkwijk was about to show his partner a pond with fish. There they perceived the moment in which the arachnid dragged its prey through one of the walls of the well, holding it with its front legs.
What most impressed Schalkwijk was to see how the spider managed to transport a fish that was almost “double its weight.” He pointed out that although he was aware that these arthropods could fish, he never thought they could get something so big. “Sometimes you see it with small fish, like fry, but never with goldfish,” he said.
