Vietnamese missile escort frigate HQ 016 Quang Trung from Vietnam will attend a combined maritime security exercise in Singapore and the Asian Maritime Defense Exhibition (IMDEX Asia) 2019, a naval spokesperson said.

The exercise involves 10 member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and other partners of the expanded Conference of Defense Ministers of ASEAN (ADMM), the source added.

The ship, with 137 officers and crew on board, will participate during their stay in this nation in a simulation of maritime security, including the takeoff and landing of helicopters on foreign ships, and the exchange of information on an alleged target at sea.

The assistance of the Vietnamese warship to the event reaffirms the foreign policy of Hanoi, which advocates proactive international integration, as well as the willingness to implement the agreements signed between the high-level ADMM defense commanders.

It also reiterates the responsibility of the Vietnamese Navy, as a member of the ASEAN Naval Forces Commanders’ Meeting, to contribute to the consolidation of friendship and cooperation with them.

The ADMM is a platform for ASEAN and its eight dialogue partners, including Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Russia and the United States, to strengthen cooperation on security and defense issues.
