The British Royal Navy wants to have ships similar to those used by the United States in secret operations.

The United Kingdom has allocated funds to develop an amphibious assault ship from a commercial container vessel with a view to saving costs, reports defense portal The Drive.

British Defense Secretary Gavin Williamson announced this and other associated projects during a speech he offered to various specialists on February 11.

That same day, the head of the naval services of the United Kingdom, Admiral Philip Andrew Jones, shared on Twitter information about this initiative and the conceptual design of the ship.

London wants to launch a project similar to the one that the United States made with the ship M / V Ocean Trader , which displaces some 30,000 tons, houses about 200 soldiers and has 45 days of autonomy.

That ship used by the US Special Operations Forces. It has workshops to repair equipment and armaments, hangars for helicopters and an emergency surgical center that can serve 10 people at the same time, among other facilities.

For its part, the UK wants its vessel to fulfill wider functions as part of the renewal of its amphibious capabilities.
