The Civil Guard investigates the origin of the drug that appeared floating in the sea distributed in several bales inside a bag.
The sunbathers on Wednesday afternoon took advantage of the first days of a summer ahead in the Platja dels Arenals of the Mitjorn area of Formentera were met with a curious surprise. Several of them gave the alarm to the lifeguards when they saw floating in the sea a black bag with several packages distributed in its interior. The first signs suggested that it was a drug, as the Guardia Civil has subsequently confirmed.
The events occurred shortly before four o’clock in the afternoon when several bathers who sunbathed on the beach spotted a black bag floating very close to the shore. After approaching and taking it out of the sea, they discovered that inside there were several bales with an unknown substance wrapped in plastic and with a logo that showed a bare the colors of the Russian flag on top. The lifeguards gave notice to the Civil Guard, who traveled to the beach to pick up the packages.
Sources of the armed institute have confirmed that it was several bales of cocaine , with a total weight of 25 kilos. Several agents have taken charge of the investigation to try to find the origin of the cache, although they explain that from time to time packages arrive with drugs to the beaches because they are lost in the exchanges that the drug trafficking organizations carry out on the high seas.
Last August five people were arrested by the Customs Surveillance Service in waters near Ibiza while collecting more than 150 kilos of drugs that had been thrown into the sea by a freighter. The arrested were part of an organization that was engaged in trafficking in drugs on the high seas by a method that consists of collecting from the water bales of drugs that carry a tracking system and that are thrown into the sea from another ship. The cargo is subsequently taken to land for sale and distribution. On that occasion, the Tax Agency obtained the seizure of 300 kilos of cocaine.
