Kevin O’Leary’s boat was involved in an accident in Ontario, Canada, which left a dead man and a seriously injured woman … TMZ found out.
The accident occurred at Lake Joseph on Saturday night, around 11:30 p.m., when a smaller boat, owned by O’Leary, crashed into a larger boat … going straight over its bow and hitting a passenger in the head, killing him instantly.
A source connected to the owner of the largest ship tells TMZ … they told the police after the impact that there was enough light to identify the people on O’Leary’s ship, and the owner said they were O’Leary and his wife. We can’t confirm that it was Kevin and his wife.
However, we talked to Kevin about the accident and he said he was following the police protocol and would not comment. As for what the protocol is … they tell us that the police will not disclose any name involved in the accident unless criminal charges are filed.
We were told that O’Leary’s boat immediately left the scene of the accident, but on Monday he was towed to the navy by a rescue boat with the police on board … who confiscated it for forensic evidence.
Multiple sources tell us that a critical element of this investigation is whether the largest boat had the lights on … so that people in O’Leary’s boat could see it at the time of impact.
Kevin seems to have at least 2 boats in the lake. While it is not clear what the accident was, a witness described it as a wakeboard boat. Kevin posted a photo of his “BatBoat” and boasted of using it to “surf” on the lake.
Our source says there were a total of 8 people in the largest ship. According to reports, the victim is a 64-year-old Florida man … while the injured woman is a 48-year-old Canadian citizen. He is reportedly in a ventilator with significant brain damage.
The cops have not said if alcohol was involved.
Kevin and his wife have a house on the lake in the area, and have posted several photos of the house and on the lake.
He wrote about the property on Instagram: “I call this the” Wedge “, it is a natural phenomenon of nature located where our house is located in the lake house! Simply beautiful!”
