The substance was found in an illegal deposit that was located by the Infantry Infantry Battalion No. 16. According to figures from the authorities, between August 2018 and February 2019, 227 tons of cocaine have been seized.
The National Navy seized in the department of Chocó 1,193 kilos of cocaine owned by gangs dedicated to drug trafficking.
The cache was located in several deposits in the municipality of Acandí in an operation involving the Police, the Army and the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) of the Prosecutor’s Office, the Navy said in a statement.
The drug was transferred to the municipality of Turbo, in the neighboring department of Antioquia, where the judicial authorities conducted tests that corroborated that the seized was cocaine.
The Navy explained that the cocaine was in “48 bags, which contained 1,200 packages hidden in two tanks” in which drug traffickers collected the drug.
The authorities investigate to what illegal group the cargo belonged. In the department of Chocó, groups such as the Clan del Golfo operate, the largest criminal organization in the country that emerged from the demobilization of paramilitary groups. There is also the presence of guerrillas of the National Liberation Army and the dissidence of the Farc.
On March 24, the Navy seized a semi-submersible loaded with 1,562 kilos of cocaine in waters of the department of Cauca, in an operation in which three people were captured.
A week later, the Ministry of Defense of Colombia reported the seizure of 1,016 kilograms of cocaine on a ship that was going to sail from Cartagena de Indias to the United States. The drug was located during an inspection of a container that had irregular security seals, so it was necessary to check the merchandise that was inside.
