An emergency medical operation was carried out on board the submarine of the Black Sea Fleet (Krasnodar Fleet) “Krasnodar”, said the official representative of the Black Sea Fleet Alexey Rulev on Thursday.
“On board the Krasnodar submarine of the Black Sea Fleet, which is at sea crossing after performing combat training tasks, an emergency medical operation was performed to remove an appendix from one of the crew members. The submarine was underwater at the same time, ”said Rulev.
The submarine commander reported on the sick sailor to the territorial control center of the Black Sea Fleet, after which, taking into account the circumstances of the transition, the patient’s condition deteriorated and the inability to quickly bring him to the hospital, the fleet command decided that the operation should be carried out on board the boat.
The head of the medical service of the submarine “Krasnodar”, a surgeon Dmitry Yuzhanin successfully performed the operation. It lasted four hours and was held in a mess-room with an area of no more than five square meters, where an operating room is being deployed in such cases.
“At the moment, the patient’s condition is satisfactory; after the arrival of Krasnodar to the home station, the soldier will be taken to a medical facility for further treatment,” Rulev said.
He said that in the modern history of the Black Sea Fleet, a surgical operation on board a submarine at sea underwater was carried out for the first time.
Earlier it was reported that on March 14, the submarine Krasnodar, equipped with cruise missiles “Caliber”, passed the Bosphorus and Dardanelles, entered the Mediterranean Sea.
