According to rumors that circulated for decades in this area of South Wales, a soldier delivered the reptile to the school in 1920.

Construction workers have found the remains of a one-and-a-half-meter long crocodile under the floor of an elementary school in South Wales (United Kingdom) during a renovation of the building, reports The Sun. The finding confirms the old local myth about the existence of a reptile buried in the school.

The director of the Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Bodringalt school, Neil Pike, admits that he never gave credit to the rumors, which he considered an “old myth.” This until he arrived at the school this Thursday morning to review the works and met the reptile on the floor of a hallway.

“I heard a story about parents and school staff who had buried a crocodile under the school sometime between the two world wars,”  The Daily Mail quotes Pike.

Legend has it that the creature had been handed over to the school in the 1920s by a soldier from the area who served in the First World War, reports The Sun.

“It is said that it was exhibited for some time before he was buried . Perhaps now we know the whole story,” says the director of the educational center.
