New Icebreaker “Arktika” To Be Ready To Go In 2020

The construction of the lead universal atomic icebreaker “Arktika” will be completed in 2020, follows from a government decree published on the website of legal information.

The previous version of the resolution assumed that construction would be completed in 2019. The volume of investment in the icebreaker “Arktika” remained unchanged – it will be about 37 billion rubles.

The Siberia nuclear-powered icebreaker is planned to be built until 2021, and the Ural to be built until 2022. Investment in construction will be about 41 and 42 billion rubles, respectively, follows from the document.

At present, three universal nuclear-powered icebreakers of the project 22220 – Arktika, Sibir and Ural – are being built at the Baltic Shipyard. They will work atomic power plants of the new generation. In total, the nuclear icebreaker fleet concept of development of the state corporation.
