Carlos Álvarez Neira died this morning, after an incident recorded in the training camp of Puerto Aldea.
The Navy did not want to give details of what happened, but confirmed that there are two investigations in progress.
In the early hours of this Tuesday he died, at the San de Coquimbo Hospital the first marine corporal Carlos Felipe Álvarez Neira, who was seriously injured while participating in a night military exercise that took place in the training camp of Puerto Aldea .
The victim, aged 31, was treated, in the first instance, by naval medical personnel, to be transferred to the San Pablo Hospital, where he died at 00:35.
The Commander of Naval Operations, Vice Admiral Marcelo Gómez , indicated that the details of the events that cost the Marine’s life will not be delivered at the moment, because there are “two investigations in parallel” .
“One (is the) carried out by the prosecutor of the First Naval Zone with support from the PDI, Carabineros, etc., and the second is the administrative summary investigation, which is internal to clarify the facts and determine, if there is, responsibilities in what happened,”added Gómez.
Likewise, Vice Admiral Gómez indicated that, after an operational pause, it will be determined whether or not the exercises that took place in the Navy’s training camp in Puerto Aldea continue.
The Navy arranged an airway for the transfer of the couple and immediate family members of Corporal First Infante Marina Carlos Álvarez from Talcahuano to Coquimbo.
