NATO plans to take measures to ensure the passage of Ukrainian ships through the Kerch Strait, as well as to extend the range of aerial reconnaissance in the Black Sea.
On this, as reported, said in Washington, the Permanent Representative of the United States to NATO, Kay Bailey Hutchison.
According to her, the NATO foreign ministers will approve this package of measures in a meeting that will begin today in Washington.
“This is a package that strengthens recognition, aerial reconnaissance and also involves sending more ships from NATO countries to the Black Sea to ensure the safe passage of Ukrainian ships through the Kerch Strait, the Sea of Azov.” said Hatchison.
He also added that “more attention is required to ensure that these waters are released” and that the countries of the region are “free of Russian intervention.”
“Russia places defensive weapons in the Crimea, and Crimea is part of Ukraine,” said the US representative.
He also says that the alliance will take a new package of measures in relation to the November incident in the Kerch Strait and added that NATO members should be able to face Russia in the Black Sea.
“It is unacceptable that Ukrainian sailors are being held in a prison in Moscow.” We have to make sure we have the opportunity to stop Russia’s aggression, “said Hutchison.
Note that after the incident that took place in November of last year in the Strait of Kerch, two Ukrainian ships and a tugboat were stopped, trying to penetrate the Azov Sea through the Russian territorial waters. After that, BP, with the presentation of President Poroshenko, imposed martial law for a period of one month. It should be noted that during martial law, in accordance with Ukrainian legislation, it is impossible to hold elections. At the same time, the second round of the presidential elections in Ukraine will take place on April 21.
Earlier, as reported by PolitNavigator, in the United States expressed the desire to introduce their ships in the Sea of Azov.
In addition, the experts of the main US think tank in the field of international relations of the Atlantic Council (the Atlantic Council) proposed that the White House introduce American warships in the Sea of Azov to “unlock the Kerch Strait”.
