On May 16, 2019 in Ambler, Alaska, the city calls for an Ice Go! Wondering what the hell an Ice Go is?
Well, when the ice starts to flow on the Kobuk River, residents will go on the VHF radio and announce, “Ice go!” Everyone in town knows what it means and a bunch of people will rush to the river to watch the Ice Go. It never gets old.
A tradition to watch the tons and tons of ice flow quickly down the river until they have traveled out of town. This wonderful celebration is a very cool custom of the Alaskans. It represents their sense of community and togetherness.
A simple yet awesome tradition shared by the residents for years. Enjoy the video down below!
