The Iranian Navy commander has dismissed recent insignificant actions by the United States and the United Kingdom to intensify the situation in the Persian Gulf region.
Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi made comments on Kish Island in southern Iran on Sunday after being asked about his opinion on events related to the region in recent weeks, the Fars News Agency reported.
Nothing has happened in the region … and the show that shows the arrogant countries, most importantly, the United States and the United Kingdom, is just a great deception and a dishonest act destined to create the impression that the region is not safe “, He said.
“This is while the region is perfectly safe,” said the official, calling for futile efforts.
The United States has been pressuring its regional allies to form a coalition force that would supposedly guarantee the safety of foreign ships sailing through the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf.
A senior commander of the IRGC elite in Iran describes a US plan to form a naval coalition to interfere in the Persian Gulf as a counterproductive initiative.
Britain also sent three warships to the Persian Gulf after Iranian forces stopped a British tanker who had collided with a fishing vessel in the Strait and then refused to answer their distress calls.
Both Washington and London have been trying to justify the escalation in strategic waters by accusing Iran of trying to destabilize shipping activities in the Persian Gulf in response to renewed US sanctions, especially in its exports.
Tehran has promised to continue selling its oil despite the bans, but has always rejected the use of violence to make that happen.
Meanwhile, key allies of Washington, Germany and Japan have refused to join the force proposed by the United States, and France has expressed reservations.
Bloomberg also reported that the efforts of the United States to build the coalition “continue to bear little fruit,” noting that Australia, the great ally, was not yet determined to join.
He quoted Australian Defense Minister Linda Reynolds as saying after a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defense Secretary Mark Esper in Sydney on Sunday that Canberra was “deeply concerned” about the increase in tensions in the region and described the request of the United States as very serious, and it is complex «.
Meanwhile, former Australian Foreign Minister Bob Carr warned against the support of any US-led mission and said any coalition of this type would guarantee a large-scale direct military conflict between the United States and Iran.
“It is completely appropriate for Australian ministers to take their time with this request from our US ally,” he said.
Iran-Russia joint drills
Khanzadi also noted the possibility of joint naval maneuvers by Iranian and Russian forces in the future.
He said an agreement had been signed between Iranian and Russian naval officials in this regard last week, and that the drills will begin at the end of the year.
