Agents of the Civil Guard, the National Police and the Tax Agency have carried out an operation called ‘New Intraborda’, in which has dismantled a criminal organization dedicated to the introduction of cocaine into Spain from South America by sea using transoceanic freighters. Eleven people have been arrested and 3,300 kilos of cocaine have been intervened, in addition to the ship in which the substance was transported.

As explained in a note, the freighter was approached by the Portuguese security forces about 150 miles from the coast of Portugal, then moved to the port of Setubal (Portugal), where he expected a commission of Spanish agents in charge of the investigation. The operation is the result of the exchange of information between the Spanish security forces and different anti-drug agencies, with the cooperation of the Portuguese authorities.

The operation was initiated as a result of the exchange of information between the Security Forces, dedicated to the fight against drug trafficking, in which an international organization was detected that was dedicating itself to the introduction of large shipments of cocaine from South America. using ships that made the transoceanic trip, to then operate closer to the coast as a mother ship.

The operation began in November 2017 within the framework of a collaboration between the EDOA of the UOPJ of Cádiz, GRECO Cádiz of the National Police and Customs Surveillance Body of the Tax Agency, aimed at the investigation of high-crime organizations of international character dedicated to the introduction into the territory of the European Union and consequently in Spain, of large consignments of cocaine from South America.

As indicated, since the beginning of the operation have been making contributions of information, inquiries and inquiries made, which have been channeled by the Center for Intelligence against Terrorism and Organized Crime CITCO, being supervised the operation by the Central Court of Instruction of the National Court.

Civil Guard and Tax Agency have explained that this type of drug trafficking is characterized by not confining itself to a specific territorial or border area, but, in a globalizing effect, they expand the scope of their operations to waters and territories that affect a multitude of countries, also presenting a plurinationality in the origin of its members.
