MOSCOW – Diplomats from the Russian embassy visited the 11 sailors detained in Cape Verde on January 31 with a large shipment of cocaine.
The entity added that it maintains permanent contact with the families of the workers.
The Cape Verde authorities detained the crew after finding 9.5 tons of cocaine in the warehouses of the ESER cargo ship of the company Ecolive registered in Panama.
According to local police quoted by the newspaper Expresso das Ilhas, ESER had left Panama for the city of Tangier in Morocco.
The boat deviated from the scheduled route to make a stop at the port of Praia, the capital of Cape Verde, after a crewmember died for reasons not yet known.
According to information from the marine tracking website of boats, ESER sailed on December 5 from the Spanish city of Ceuta, located on the Moroccan border, to Praia.
Last weekend, a Cape Verdean court ruled that the crew members were in prison and so far has not filed charges.
