The National Coast Guard System maintains an active search for two fishermen who have been missing since Wednesday in Puntarenas, after the boat they were traveling in sank.

The situation was recorded on Tuesday at about 8:40 p.m., when the incident was reported in front of the cruise ship pier, approximately 3.5 kilometers from the coast.

During the first hours of rescue the authorities managed to safeguard seven fishermen, of the nine who in total were traveling on the 27-foot sardine ship, under the name KIN.

Martin Arias, Coast Guard director, explained that the search for the moment is concentrated internally and around the sunken ship.

The missing fishermen are, one of the last name Phillips, 60 years old and another surnamed Rosales, 50 years old.

According to Arias, in addition to the search, an investigation was also initiated to clarify the reasons for the accident.

The authorities and the team of divers hired by the company that owns the ship work to move the vessel to a less deep place, to prevent current maritime conditions from affecting the search.
