The ship, which was traveling between the cities of Cebu and Dapitan, in the center and south of the country, was traveling with 174 people on board
Three people died, including a one-year-old baby, and 69 remain missing after burning a ferry last night in the Philippines, with at least 174 people on board, which made the journey between the cities of Cebu and Dapitan, in the center and south of the country.
The causes of the “Lite Ferry 16” fire, which carried 136 passengers and 38 crew members, of which 102 people have been rescued alive, are unknown at the moment, according to the latest update of accident data provided by the Coast Guard of Philippines
Among those rescued alive, two have been transferred to the hospital unconscious, while the search for more survivors continues, hindered by strong winds and sea currents, said the commander of the coastguard station in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, Cherry Rose Manaay.
Another passenger ferry that was traveling along that route stopped to take care of the people who threw themselves into the water while the Lite Ferry 16 was on fire, as seen in recordings uploaded on social networks by witnesses to the accident.
Allan Barredo, one of the witnesses who was traveling on the other ferry, lamented in a message posted on Facebook that the Coast Guard would not arrive at the scene of the accident until four hours had passed.
