Scare on the coast of the Tenerife municipality of Arona, south of the island. A Zodiac-type boat, presumably with a group of divers on board, suffered an accident in a rocky area, which caused its eight occupants to rush into the water.
The first hypotheses suggest that the bad state of the sea in this area motivated the event, due to a front of the storm Emma that approaches with wind and rain to the archipelago.
Although the storm is expected to hit the islands hard between Wednesday and Thursday this week, it has already begun to form a ‘sea of the bottom’, a situation caused just as a prelude to this phenomenon.
The Aemet declared, for this reason, the yellow warning for today by wind in El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera, the south and the metropolitan area of Tenerife, and in the south and the summits of Gran Canaria, and by coastal phenomena in El Hierro and La Palma, apart from rain in the latter.
After a call to the emergency services of a citizen who was witnessing what happened from the ground, a GES helicopter was activated, the Local Police of Arona and the Civil Guard. Finally, it was a Salvamar Maritime Rescue vessel that was able to carry out the rescue. The eight occupants are unharmed according to the information provided by the Security and Emergency Department of the Government of the Canary Islands.
