The event occurred when a 30-year-old woman who participated in an activity fell into the sea and her other two colleagues tried to rescue her.
At least one Austrian tourist has died and two others are missing due to an accident during a paragliding jump that took place on Monday at Meco beach, about 40 kilometres south of Lisbon. In particular, according to Luís Lavrador, captain of the port of the district of Setúbal, to which Meco belongs, the event occurred around 11:30 local time (10:30 GMT), when a 30-year-old woman who participated in the activity was dropped into the sea.
Also, Lavrador pointed out that “two colleagues tried to rescue her, but they did not succeed”. One of them, who has died, has been found on the shore with cardiorespiratory arrest, without the emergency services have been able to do anything for him. The other, like the woman, is missing.
In addition, the captain has acknowledged that the strong wind blowing in the area and the state of the sea are hindering the search efforts of the two disappeared and has claimed that the Portuguese authorities have deployed two boats and a helicopter to find them.
