The drug was located in a container that had been loaded with bananas. There were no detainees, the authorities indicated.
A total of 133 kilos of cocaine, which travelled hidden among a load of pineapple, were confiscated at the Limón dock by officers of the Drug Control Police (PCD).
According to the Ministry of Public Security, the drug was placed inside a merchant ship called “Polar Chile”, which carried a metal container with official banana cargo; However, when it was opened, it was found that the drug was hidden among several boxes of pineapple for export.
The ship had the final destination Ireland. The finding occurred after the authorities received confidential information on August 12 through telephone line 1176, which indicated that a possible drug transport would be given.
Trained dogs from the Canine Unit of the Border Police were in charge of checking and finding the cocaine packages. Despite the location of the narcotic, there was no detainee in this case.
