Poachers Groups Intensified on Sakhalin with the Opening of Navigation

Border guards seized more than 7 tons of crabs, fishing gear and boats from poachers on Sakhalin and Kuriles in May, the press service of the Frontier Department of the Federal Security Service of the Sakhalin region said on Wednesday.

“Over a month, the Border Management has seized more than 7 tons of crab, 10 copies of the Sakhalin taimen listed in the Red Book of Russia, and dozens of Sims (the salmon family – IF),” the report said.

According to the press service, poachers were also confiscated almost 10 thousand meters of fishing nets, more than 400 crab traps, more than 10 unregistered small-sized floating crafts used in illegal activities.

“With the opening of navigation there is an activation of poaching groups,” the press service said.

All the revealed facts are checked, the guilty persons will be held liable in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation, the press service warns.
