The court in Primorye issued a guilty verdict to five DPRK citizens for illegally mining crab in Russian waters.
“The Khasansky District Court found foreigners guilty of illegal bioresources mining committed by the group, by prior conspiracy (art.256 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). One of their figurants, who was the captain of the vessel, was also convicted under art. 322 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal crossing of the State Border of the Russian Federation), “the representative of the Krai prosecutor’s office told the Interfax-Far East agency without specifying the citizenship of the convicts.
An informed source told the Interfax-Far East agency that they are citizens of the DPRK.
The captain of the ship was sentenced to 2 years 2 months of imprisonment, the rest of the defendants received two years of colony each. Also, the court granted the claims claimed by the prosecutor about recovery of environmental damage from the convicts. The verdict came into force.
The court found that in September 2017 the captain of the motorbike, carrying four of his compatriots on board, illegally crossed the state border of the Russian Federation. In the territorial sea of the Russian Federation, foreigners illegally caught about 2 thousand crabs.
Violators were detained by border guards.
