A plane from the Papuan company Air Niugini ended up in a coastal lagoon on an island in Micronesia (South Pacific) after skipping the runway during the landing, in an event without fatalities.

The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, was scheduled to make a stop at the airport of Chuuk, on the island of Weno, of the Federated States of Micronesia, when in the approach maneuver to the runway it concluded in the waters annexed to the aerodrome, the airline says in a statement.
Air Niugini, the flag company of Papua New Guinea, confirmed that all people on board were evacuated safely.
The authorities and the airline have opened an investigation to clarify the incident, of which the causes are unknown at the moment.
