The National Navy, in co-ordination with the Corporation for the Sustainable Development of the South of the Amazon – Corpoamazonía, carried out the release of 60 baby Taricaya turtles, in the Caucayá river, in the municipal seat of Puerto Leguízamo, Putumayo.
The Taricaya Turtle is one of the most beautiful species that lives in the great rivers and lakes of the Amazon. Each year, during the laying season, between the months of July and August, the adult Taricayas lay thousands of eggs on the beaches of the rivers.
Almost two months later, between September and October, the small turtles begin to be born.
