The accident occurred after the boat in which they travelled overturned before big waves.
At least 46 migrants Ethiopians died as they drowned in the coasts while trying to cross from Somalia across the Gulf of Eden bound for Yemen, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
Among the victims are 37 men and 9 women, all of them drowned in the sea at the moment when the boat in which they travelled was overturned in the midst of great waves before reaching the banks of Yemen.
The organization added that 16 people remain missing, who are believed to have died in the accident.
IOM announced that at least 7,000 migrants have risked crossing the Gulf of Eden every month.
In fact, last year some 100 thousand migrants took the trip, according to Mohamed Abdiker, director of the IOM’s Department of Operations and Emergencies.
