The US Launched the Destroyer of the Future

The second American destroyer of the Zumwalt type, named USS Michael Monsoor (DDG 1001), was launched, reports Navy Recognition.

The destroyer of the future left the Bath Iron Works in Bath, Maine on December 5, and headed for the Atlantic Ocean for testing. The US Navy must accept USS Michael Monsoor in 2018.

Destroyers of the Zumwalt type at a length of 183 meters and a displacement of 14.7 thousand tons develop a speed of up to 30 knots. Each ship is planned to be armed with 20 MK 57 VLS launchers for 80 missiles, two 155-millimeter cannons and two anti-aircraft guns Mk 110 caliber 57 millimeters. At Zumwalt can be based one helicopter Sikorsky SH-60 Sea Hawk and three UAV MQ-8 Fire Scout.
