Russia and Japan agreed the terms of salmon fishing

Salmon FishingRussia and Japan agreed the terms of fishing of salmon in the exclusive economic zone of the Russian Federation during the intergovernmental consultations held in Moscow. According to the agenda of the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the volume of quotas, species composition, fishing areas and specific conditions associated with salmon fishing in the Russian EEZ by Japanese fishing vessels in 2017 on a fee basis. The next Russian-Japanese intergovernmental consultations on the conditions of fishing for Russian salmon were decided to be held before the end of March 2018 in Tokyo.

The Russian delegation was headed by Deputy Head of the Federal Agency for Fisheries Petr Savchuk, while Japanese was leaded by the Head of the Department of Development of Reproduction of the Department of Fisheries of Japan Hoshina Masaka.

Cooperation between Russia and Japan in the field of salmon conservation is based on the Agreement between the Government of the USSR and the Government of Japan on cooperation in the field of fisheries of May 12. In order to implement these agreements, the Russian-Japanese Mixed Commission on Fisheries has been established.
