The large amphibious ship (BMK) of the Russian Navy Yamal on Wednesday, passing the Black Sea straits, entered the water area of the Mediterranean Sea, local information portals published photos of its passage through the Bosporus.
According to the Istanbul websites, the ship goes to the Syrian port of Tartus, where the logistics base of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean is located.
It is noted that this is the ninth expedition of the ship to Syria this year.
In October, with the cargo to Syria, the Black Sea Fleet’s Azov BKK marched on the deck of which an unusually large number of Russian servicemen were seen. In September, BDK “Azov”, “Caesar Kunikov” and “Yamal” also visited Syria.
Last Wednesday, a cargo vessel, Alexander Tkachenko, was chartered by the Russian military through the Black Sea straits to the Mediterranean. On its board were seen trucks “Ural”, painted in green, sand-colored “KamAZ”, as well as heavy containers.
According to foreign media reports, the BDK and vessels of the Russian Navy auxiliary fleet, as well as chartered vessels, are participating in an operation called the Syrian Express to deliver ammunition to the Russian air group at the Khmeimim airbase near Latakia and the Syrian government army fighting Islamists, including with the so-called “Islamic state” (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation).
