Ferry Sansovino allided with pier at Port of Milazzo in Sicily

SansovinoThe ferry Sansovino allided with quay XX Luglio in the port of Milazzo in Sicily, Italy. The Cyprus-flagged vessel was leaving the port en route to Aeolian Islands, but stuck into the pier after technical failure during maneuvering and suffered minor hull damages. There were no reported injuries, no damaged vehicles and water ingress on board of the ferry, but all the passengers were ordered to leeave the vessel before further inspection. The Milazzo Port Captain has ordered an inspection and launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. It was estimated that the ship Sansovino has only minor damages in the stern, but the quay was affected more significantly.

The technical problem on board of ferry Sansovino has been solved as well as communicating with Siremar. Later the ferry was released to leave the port again and headed to next port of call in Lipari.

The ferry Sansovino (IMO: 8705709) has overall length of 122.00 m, moulded beam of 20.00 m and maximum draft of 4.80 m. The deadweight of the ship is 2,267 DWT and the gross tonnage is 10,977 GRT. The vessel was built in 1989 by Fincantiery Castellammare in their shipyard in Italy.
