Cargo turnover of Port of Helsinki decreased by 4.3% in Q1 2017

Port of HelsinkiThe cargo turnover of the port of Helsinki in Finland decreased by 4.3% yoy in Q1 2017, amounting to 3.29 million tonnes. The throughput of bulk cargo increased by 9.8% to 0.40 million tons, while the turnover of general cargo rose by 11% yoy and amounted to 2.86 million tons. In particular, the import of general cargo amounted to 1.33 million tons (+8.4%), while exports amounted to 1.53 million tons (+13.4%). The turnover of other types of cargo decreased by 93.1% to 34,690 tons. The container turnover of the port of Helsinki in January-March 2017 reached 118,490 TEU, which remains at the level of the same period last year. The trucks and trailers are handled through the port aperture rose by 12% yoy to 138.48 thousand units, while the passenger turnover decreased by 0.6% to 2.24 million people.

Throughput of the port in March 2017 decreased by 27.3% yoy to 1.16 million tons. The turnover of general cargo reached 1.05 million tons (+12.9%), while bulk cargo throughput amounted to 0.09 million tons (-47%).

The port of Helsinki in Finland is an international port, which has regular sea links with the ports of the North and Baltic seas, as well as with the major port cities of all European countries. Throughput in 2016 amounted to 11.62 million tons of cargo, while container turnover amounted to 451,270 TEU.
