The general cargo ship Tallas developed heavy list to portboard in Marmara Sea at Zeytinburnu Anchorage off Istanbul, Turkey. The vessel is apparently abandoned without crew on board, but suffered breaches in the hull and some of the ballast tanks flooded. The coast guard dispatched rescue boat to stabilize the distressed cargo ship, which is in immediate danger of sinking. The inspectors boarded the vessel and took actions to improve the list and prevent ship from capsizing. There is no report about oil leaks or water pollution, but on board of the general cargo ship Tallas there are several tons of sludge, oil and lub oils.
The local authorities are monitoring the troubled vessel. The general cargo ship Tallas is abandoned at Zeytinburnu Anchorage without maintenance since April 2016, probably idle for the shipowner. The local authorities will start investigation for the accident and will charge the salvage operation to the vessel’s operator.
The general cargo ship Tallas (IMO: 7364546) has overall length of 65.00 m, moulded beam of 9.00 m and maximum draft of 3.00 m. The deadweight of the vessel is 1,241 DWT and the gross tonnage is 745 GRT. The Cambodia-flagged general cargo ship Tallas was built in 1974 at Marmara Shipyard in Korfez, Turkey.
