A fire has broken out on a boat in a Cornish harbour. Crews from Penzance, St Just and Falmouth all got the shout on Wednesday night. The blaze was discovered inside the engine room and firefighters used hose reels to put it out.
He posted on Facebook: “Fishing boat PZ78, a beamer from the Stevenson fleet, caught fire in Newlyn harbour earlier this evening.”
The outbreak was quickly dealt with by the swift action of two fire engines and support crews. “As far as I know, no-one was hurt.”
“Business seemed to be continuing normally though, as fish were still being unloaded outside the market.”
A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service said: “Appliances from Penzance and St Just along with a support appliance from Falmouth responded to this incident. On arrival, a fire was discovered inside the engine room of a fishing vessel. Firefighters used two breathing apparatus sets and a hose reel to extinguish the fire.”
