The tug boat Ricky J Leboeuf capsized in San Jacinto river off Houston. The vessel with five crew was up against the barge before turning broadside to it, capsizing and sinking. Four of the crew members were rescued by Coast Guard and nearby tugs, but one remained in water trap inside the capsized tug. After short search and rescue operation, the body of the drowned seaman was found. The local authorities started investigation for the root cause of the capsizing. The tug wreck was surrounded by oil booms to restrict any pollution and oil spill. The rescued seamen are in good health and without serious injuries.
The Sheriff’s Office confirmed this morning that its Marine Unit was dispatched to the San Jacinto River Bridge and Interstate 10 East. The reason for capsizing is unknown, but investigation is under way. The shipping traffic at the San Jacinto river was closed during the search and rescue and investigation.
