gerbang samudra 5The Ro-Ro passenger ship Gerbang Samudra 5 ran aground at Gilimanuk port in Bali island, Indonesia. The vessel was approaching the pier en route from Ketapang with no cargo and passengers on board, but during the accident one crew was injured. Fortunately the injuries were slight and after short medical examination, the injured seaman was released for home treatment. According to voyage plan, the ferry was making a trial run after repairs, but unfortunately stuck hardly at one cable off the pier. The accident was reported to the local authorities and at the scene were dispatched towing tug and rescue boat. According to the plant the ferry Gerbang Samudra 5 is expected to be refloated at high tide.

The local authorities stared investigation for the root cause of grounding. There is no report about technical failure, so probably vessel stuck due to human mistake. Circumstances around the grounding are not yet clear.

The Ro-Ro passenger ship Gerbang Samudra 5 has overall length of 74.00 m, moulded beam of 12.00 m and maximum draft of 4.50 m. The gross tonnage of the ferry is 1,998 GRT.
