Reefer Green Klipper caught fire at the dry-dock in Poland

Green Klipper fireThe Polish reefer Green Klipper caught fire at the dry-dock of Gryfia Marine Ship Repair Yard in Szczecin, Poland. The accident happened during welding works in superstructure compartment on the main deck, which inflamed cables and oil samples. The fire extended to the whole main deck and firefighters needed of several hours until successfully established the flames. None of the crew members and dock workers were injured. The damages caused by the fire are under assessment and will extended the duration of dry-dock repairs of the reefer Green Klipper.

The reefer was dry-docked in floating dock at Gryfia Marine Ship Repair Yard and was about to return in operations yesterday, but after the fire it is unknown when the ship will be floated. According to the local authorities and media, there was not water pollution and no injured people during the accident.

The reefer Green Klipper (IMO: 9001904) was built in 1991 by Yvc Ysselwerf in Netherlands. The owner and operator of the cargo ship is Polish company Green Management. The reefer has overall length of 109.00 m, moulded beam of 16.00 m and maximum draft of 5.00 m. The deadweight of the ship is 5,754 DWT and the gross tonnage is 4,091 GRT. The cargo ship is operating under the flag of Bahamas.
