Reefer Arkadija caught fire at Vladivostok port

Reefer ArkadijaThe reefer Arkadija caught fire at Vladivostok port, Russia. The vessel was docked at berth 44, but after opening the cargo hatches the gasses inside the hold inflamed. At the scene of the accident were dispatched nine firefighting teams from the port and succeeded to extinguish the fire within 2 hours without causing significant damages for the vessel. Somne quantity of the cargo on board was damaged, but exact value is under assessment. The root cause of the fire is under investigation, but according to preliminary information the fire started from overheated gasses into the cargo hold.

During the accident there were no injured people and no water pollution. The local authorities will investigation the accident.

The reefer Arkadija (IMO: 9057393) has overall length of 134.00 m, moulded beam of 18.00 m and maximum draft of 5.90 m. The deadweight of the vessels is 7,911 DWT and the gross tonnage is 6,971 GRT. The vessel was built in 1992 by 61 Communards Shipbuilding in Nikolayev, Ukraine. The owner and operator of the reefer Arkadija is the Russian company Sakhryba 1.
