Product tanker Champion Ebony ran aground in Alaska

Champion EbonyThe product tanker Champion Ebony ran aground near Nunivak, Alaska. The vessel was en route from Vancouver to Alaska, loaded with 5,400 tons of fuel product on board. The product tanker grounded at sandy shallow after blackout, but at dead slow ahead speed. The crew succeeded to return power and refloated several minutes later without estimating any damages and breaches. The ship anchored at safe depth in vicinity and stranded for special survey and inspection. Fortunately during the accident there were no injured people and no water pollution. After inspection the ship will be released to resume voyage.

The local authorities started investigation for the root cause of the accident. The vessel did not suffered damages, which prevented serious environment disaster. The vessel will be fully inspected for following the safety procedures for transportation of hazardous materials.

The product tanker Champion Ebony (IMO: 9290608) has overall length of 182.00 m, moulded beam of 32.00 m and maximum draft of 7.50 m. The deadweight of the cargo ship is 46,938 DWT and the gross tonnage is 27,547 GRT. The tanker was built in 2004 by 3 Maj Shipbuilding Industry in Rijeka, Croatia. The owner and operator of the vessel is Coatian company Uljanik Shipmanagement.
