The Japanese shipping operator NYK Line placed order for 4,700 new refrigerated FEU, aiming to improve its service in transportation fresh fruits and foods. The new order includes 600 Controlled Atmosphere technology fitted containers, which not only allows to adjust the temperature inside the container, but the level of oxygen and carbon dioxide, which maintains the freshness of fruits and vegetables during prolonged transport. The company plans to use the containers for deliver the fruit from Latin America to Japan and other Asian countries, as well as for the export of Japanese vegetables, which are increasingly in demand in the international markets.
NYK Line has acquired 5,500 refrigerated containers last year, and the average age of the refrigerated carrier fleet of more than 40,000 Units, fell to four years.
In recent years the carriers placed huge orders for expansion refrigerated containers fleet on the background of continuing growth in the transport of perishable goods. Currently, the reefer transport is the only growing segment of the container market due to the growing demand for fresh meat, fish, fruits and vegetables in China.
