Heavy fuel leaked at Port of St Petersburg during bunkering operations at Triton Reefer

Triton ReeferAt least 100 liters of heavy fuel leaked at Port of St Petersburg during bunkering operations of cargo ship Triton Reefer. The vessel was taking fuel from the local bunkering tanker Freya, but after damage of the hose sufficient quantity of fuel spilled into the water between a board and a berth. The ship emergency crew immediately took all the necessary measures to restrict additional pollution, stopping the fuel transfer and restricted additional spills from the deck. Also the oil spot was treated with sorbent and reported the accident to the local authorities. The emergency team responded to environment pollution site, dispatching hazmat team and equipment for water cleansing to eliminate the pollution.

The environment pollution spots will be treated by BF FBU “Morspassluzhba Rosmorrechflot”. The area of spill was restricted to compact spot, not causing sufficient damages to local environment. The vessel was detained during further investigation.

The cargo ship Triton Reefer (IMO: 8911102) has overall length of 144.00 m, moulded beam of 21.60 m and maximum draft of 6.20 m. The deadweight of the ship is 9,683 DWT and the gross tonnage is 8,818 GRT. The ship was built in 1990 by Shin Kurushima Onishi Shipyard in Imabari, Japan. The reefer vessel is owned and operated by NYK Reefers Lim under the flag of Liberia.
