Hapag-Lloyd ordered 5,750 new refrigerated containers

Hapag-Lloyd German shipping company Hapag-Lloyd placed an order for 5,750 new refrigerated containers. The statement noted that the company invests in the growing segments of the market for export of fruits and vegetables from Latin America. The order includes delivery of 5,000 FEU and 750 TEU, as 1,000 containers will be equipped with “air control” technology, which allows to provide the conditions for a long-term storage and transportation of fruits and vegetables. According to the statement of Hapag-Lloyd, the new refrigerated containers will used also for transport high-value goods, such as the pharmaceutical industry products.

The delivery of the new 5,750 new refrigerated containers will start from the begin of next month.

An year ago, Hapag-Lloyd ordered 6,000 refrigerated containers within the business development strategy for the Latin American market. Since the end of the year, on the services from South America to Europe are deployed five new container ships, each with capacity of 10,000 TEU with 2,100 reefer points.

The German shipping company Hapag-Lloyd is trying to improve its market share and develop its finance statement. The company reported 142.1 million EUR loss in first half of 2016, compared to a profit of 157.2 million EUR during the same period last year.

Hapag-Lloyd is a German transportation company comprising a cargo container shipping line. Hapag-Lloyd AG is the world’s fifth largest container carrier in terms of vessel capacity.
