The general cargo ship Mehmet Akin collided with pier in Evyap port, Turkey. The vessel was maneuvering for berthing with pilot on board, but proceeded with higher than recommended speed and hit the stone quay. The general cargo ship Mehmet Akin suffered breach above the waterline with dimensions 80×50 cm. The vessel did not suffered other damages and remained afloat without water ingress. The incident was reported to local authorities and at the scene arrived inspectors to estimate the damages. The ship was berthed at the pier and was allowed to start cargo operations, but will need of special survey after repair is completed.
The general cargo ship Mehmet Akin was en route from port of Ambarli with cargo of cement. Fortunately during the accident there were no injured people and no water pollution. The local authorities started investigation for the root cause of the collision.
