Fire on board of bulk carrier Oceanmaster at Monitor de Bretagne terminal in Saint-Nazaire

OceanmasterCargo of board of bulk carrier Oceanmaster was engulfed by flames at Monitor de Bretagne terminal in Saint-Nazaire, France. The vessel was offloading soya, but during the operations some of the fumes into the hold caught fire. The crew reported the accident to the port authorities and at the scene arrived port firefighting brigade, which succeeded to extinguish the flames withing several hours. There were no sufficient damages and danger for the seaworthiness of the vessel. It was estimated the around 8 tons of soya were completely destroyed by the fire, while another at least 50 tons were contaminated. During the accident on board of the cargo vessel there were around 12,000 tons of soya.

The local authorities started investigation for the root cause of the accident. The ship did not suffered any damages during the fire. There were no injured people and no reported water pollution.

The bulk carrier Oceanmaster (IMO: 9641340) arrived at Saint-Nazaire from Romania. The ship has overall length of 190.00 m, moulded beam of 32.00 m and maximum draft of 9.40 m. The deadweight of the vessel is 56,715 DWT and the gross tonnage is 33,049 GRT. The bulk carrier was built in 2013 by Cosco Zhoushan Shipyard in China. The owner and manager of the ship is Greek company Oceanstar Shipmanagement.
