Ferry Mazovia caught fire in Sweden

Ferry MazoviaThe ferry Mazovia caught fire in Port of Ystad, Sweden. The passenger were already on board and vessel was preparing to leave the terminal bound for Swinoujscie in Poland, when engine room fire alarm was raised and one of the diesel generators started smoking. The crew turned the generator off and reported the accident to the local authorities. The fire was extinguished without causing any sufficient damages to the propulsion system, but the defected generator had to be repaired and overheating to be put under control. The crew worked during the whole night, but were not able to fix the problem and to pass inspection from the authorities.

In the beginning the departure of the voyage was delayed with one hour, but later the vessel remained in Ystad for the whole night. The passengers were asked to leave the vessel in the morning and informed that the voyage was canceled. They were not refunded and had to buy tickets for another ferry. A lot of complaints were sent to the office of the ferry company.

The ferry Mazovia (IMO: 9010814) has overall length of 168.00 m, moulded beam of 28.00 m and maximum draft of 6.40 m. The deadweight of the vessel is 6,124 DWT and the gross tonnage is 29,289 GRT. The ship was built in 1996 by Dok Kodja Bahari in Jakarta, Indonesia.
