The German dredger Hegemann 4 collided with the Dutch jack up ship MPI Enterprise, which was berthed at the Strom Quay in Bremerhaven. The dredger was working near the quay, when suddenly smashed with her stern into the fore part of the jackup vessel. The drilling ship MPI Enterprise suffered breach of 30 cm, but above the waterline and not causing danger for the seaworthiness of the vessel. The dredger Hegemann 4 suffered damages in the superstructure and the railings, but after inspection was released to return in service and continue operations. Fortunately during the accident there were no injured people and no water pollution.
The local authorities started investigation for the root cause and circumstances around the collision. There wes no information about technical failure of the dredger, so probably the collision happened due to human mistake.
The dredger Hegemann 4 (IMO: 8121044) has overall length of 81.00 m, moulded beam of 15.00 m and maximum draft of 3.50 m. The deasdweight of the ship is 2,700 DWT and the gross tonnage is 2,172 GRT. The vessel was built in 1982 by Suerken Hermann shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. The manager and operator of the dredger Hegemann 4 is the German company Detlef Hegemann Dradging.
The jack up construction maintenance ship MPI Enterprise (IMO: 9578244) has overall length of 100.00 m, moulded beam of 40.00 m and maximum draft of 7.20 m. The deadweight of the ship is 6,314 DWT and the gross tonnage is 11,730 GRT. The vessel was built in 2011 by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering in South Korea.
