DONG Energy early terminated contract with Maersk Drilling for jackup drilling platform Maersk Resolve. The rig was operating at Hejre field in the Danish offshore sector at the North Sea, but the energy company finalized the planned work scope. The both companies contracted the compensation under the early termination agreement, which will be financially neutral to the original contract. The initially contract was scheduled to end in January 2017. Maersk Drilling will continue looking for new contract of the jackup drilling platform Maersk Resolve and do not plan to lay-off some of the crew of the rig.
“We are all acutely aware of the difficult market situation we are facing in the offshore drilling industry, however, it is gratifying to see a rig like the Maersk Resolve and her crew outperform expectations and complete her work scope several months ahead of schedule for the complex HPHT development at Hejre”, said the head of global sales of Maersk Drilling, Michael Reimer Mortensen. “The Maersk Resolve and her crew has delivered a great performance throughout the duration of the contract, and we aim to secure a new contract for the rig as soon as possible”, added he.
Maersk Resolve is a high-efficiency jack-up drilling rig, which was built in 2009 and designed for year-round operation in harsh environments. The rig is designed to operate at water depth up to 350 feet and is fully high pressure and high temperature capable.
