Wannan Fang 88 ran agroundThe container ship Wannan Fang 88 ran aground at Yangtze river in Shanghai port, China. The vessel suffered breached below the waterline and started getting water ingress. Some of the ballast compartments were flooded and carrier developed list to starboard with danger of sinking or capsizing. The situation went critical and there was immediate danger for the ship and crew, The local authorities requested evacuation of the eight crew members on board and All of them were carried by rescue boat to the shore. The salvors started stabilization of the ship and after almost whole day pumping out the water succeeded to prevent capsizing. All the 80- container from the container ship Wannan Fang 88 were offloaded to another vessel.

The local authorities started investigation for the root cause of grounding. According to preliminary information, the strong winds and heavy seas, together with human mistake, throw the vessel to the rocky shallow. After grounding there were underwater damages and one of the fuel tanks was also breached. Some oil spilled into Yangtze river and authorities started water cleansing. The spilled quantity was not sufficient and there was no environmental disaster.

The coastal container ship Wannan Fang 88 has overall length of 78.00 m, moulded beam of 16.00 m and maximum draft of 4.50 m.
