Chinese general cargo ship Tian Feng 3 caught fire in Japan

cargo ship Tian Feng 3The Chinese general cargo ship Tian Feng 3 caught fire at Fukuoka port in Japan. The vessel was loading scrap, when one of the cargo holds started smoking and fire erupted from the product inside. About 500 tons of scrap were already loaded on board of the general cargo ship and all started burning. The local authorities were informed from the accident immediately and at the scene of the burning vessel were dispatched 18 firefighting teams, tugs and helicopter, which assisted with extinguishing of flames. After four and half hours, the fire was put under control and later fully extinguished. The product was offloaded on the terminal, but unfortunately was almost fully damaged.

The Chinese general cargo ship Tian Feng 3 was detained until further investigation and special survey of seaworthiness. There were no injured people and water pollution during the fire. The local authorities started investigation for the root cause of the fire.

The general cargo ship Tian Feng 3 (IMO: 8911035) has overall length of 85.00 m, moulded beam of 14.00 m and maximum draft of 4.50 m. The deadweight of the vessel is 4,080 DWT and the gross tonnage is 2,510 GRT. The general cargo ship was built in 1990 by Sanuki Shipbuilding and Iron Works at their shipyard in Takuma, Japan.
