Cargo ship Navigator ran aground at Russian Inner Waterways

Cargo ship NavigatorThe general cargo ship Navigator ran aground at Russian Inner Waterways in Volgograd Reservoir. The vessel was en route from Orlovskoye to Astrakhan with cargo of grain, but after blackout left the fairway and grounded into the sandbank. There were no sufficient damages, but crew was unable to refloat the ship and reported the accident to the local authorities. At the scene was dispatched rescue boat and inspectors, who should assess the damages received after grounding. The salvage of the general cargo ship Navigator is contracted, but not yet started. After refloating the vessel will be docked at Volgograd for further special survey and safety inspection.

The traffic at the shipping way is not affected and there was no congestion. There is no report for oil leak and water pollution, neither injured people. The investigation for the root cause of the accident is under way.

The general cargo ship Navigator (IMO: 8841735) has overall length of 114.00 m, moulded beam of 13.20 m and maximum draft of 4.00 m. The deadweight of the ship is 3687 DWT and the gross tonnage is 2457 GRT. The cargo vessel was built in 1980 by Zavody Tazkeho Strojarstva in Komarno, Slovakia.
